FAQ

What file formats does DocDeal support?

DocDeal supports Word documents (.docx), PDF documents (.pdf), and Excel spreadsheets (.xlsx). The legacy .doc format is not supported — please convert .doc files to .docx first.

What is the difference between local mode and cloud mode?

In local mode, files never leave your device — all processing happens in your browser, completely free and private. Cloud mode processes files server-side, supporting OCR for scanned documents, large files (200+ pages), and batch comparison, requiring a Pro subscription.

What do the colors in comparison results mean?

Green highlights indicate added content, red highlights indicate deleted content, and yellow highlights indicate modified content. The system precisely marks every change at the character level.

What is character-level diff detection?

Character-level diff detection means the system identifies changes down to individual characters — not just whole paragraphs. Even a single punctuation change is accurately detected and highlighted.

Is my document data secure?

In local mode, documents are never uploaded to any server — all processing happens in your browser. In cloud mode, files are encrypted during transfer and automatically deleted after processing. DocDeal does not store user document content.

What are the limitations of the free version?

The free version supports unlimited local comparisons with a maximum of 20MB and 30 pages per file. It includes Word, PDF, and Excel support with basic HTML export. Upgrade to Pro for OCR, large file processing, and batch comparison.

How do I handle scanned PDF documents?

Scanned PDFs require OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to convert images to text. In cloud mode, the system automatically detects scanned documents and triggers OCR processing. OCR requires a Pro subscription.

How do I export comparison results?

After comparison, click the "Export Report" button. Choose HTML format (available in the free version) or PDF/Word format (Pro). Reports include a diff statistics summary and detailed line-by-line comparison.
